About
History – Our Founder’s Journey…
Our founder’s journey in health and fitness began in Perth, Western Australia, as a skinny young man who wanted to build strength through weightlifting. Over the next 11 years, Paul Barclay trained and competed with world-class athletes and won several championships. His passion for fitness soon turned into a career. Paul launched a fitness equipment manufacturing company and later worked with some of the largest fitness brands in the world.
These experiences opened the door to the personal training industry and, in 1992, he co-founded and launched the Renouf Personal Training Centre, which grew into multiple locations.

Each center combined diet and exercise to deliver guaranteed results. Thousands of customers benefited from programs built on real, lasting change. As a business model, the original location generated revenues in excess of 1,000,000 dollars per year.
From Local Success To Global Projects
In 1994, the equipment icon Nautilus recommended Paul to their Middle East distributors, with the goal of promoting his new lifestyle center concept throughout the Middle East and India. Paul took on the role and worked on some of the most prestigious installations in the region.
An opportunity then developed in the United States, and Paul moved to Dayton, Ohio. He was soon pioneering the personal training business throughout the country.

In 1996, Paul co-founded and launched the world’s first Lifestyle Center in Kettering, Ohio, focused on attracting the 90 percent of the population who would not join a fitness center. This center set new standards in personal training and began attracting visitors from all over the United States who also wanted to break into this new deconditioned market.
Two years later, Paul launched a more streamlined studio model that was soon delivering over 1,500 sessions per month. The focus was on smaller studios, which were easier to set up and manage and were optimum for a franchise or licensing model.

Over the next five years, Paul opened new studios and consulted with businesses across the United States, while fine tuning the systems that make duplication easier and profitability more predictable.
Since then, Paul has consulted with large and small businesses and with individual trainers in the personal training industry, launched a worldwide personal trainer directory, and helped many trainers develop and manage their own studios.
Personal Training Profits Is Born
Paul is now focused on Personal Training Profits, a resource for personal trainers and entrepreneurs seeking help and guidance in this ever growing industry.

Throughout his career, Paul has worked with top fitness experts, bestselling weight loss authors and certified dietitians. He has also partnered with exercise professionals and Fortune 500 companies. This broad network gives Paul a deep understanding of how the exercise and diet industries work. Most importantly, it showed him what actually makes a personal training business successful.

By January 2001, he had completely reorganized our staff positions, training systems and policies. Along with Paul’s marketing experience, we enjoyed a well-managed team, sales and growth. By August of 2001, we had broken many national records in personal training sales and client base in one location.

Why Personal Training Profits Exists
Why Personal Training Profits exists
Most personal trainers do not fail because they are bad with clients. They fail because no one ever showed them how to build a real business around their skills. Across studios, franchises and online coaching offers, the same problems repeat themselves:
- Great coaches with empty appointment books
- Busy trainers who still live month to month because pricing and packaging are wrong
- Owners trapped in their own studio because there are no systems for staff, sales or retention
- Talented trainers paying large franchise fees for branding, but still missing a clear path to real profitability
An AI proof Career in Personal Training
Across many industries, AI is already replacing routine, screen based tasks and will continue to do so. Service businesses that rely on real human contact have a very different risk profile, and in person personal training is one of them.
Across the health and fitness industry, AI is changing how programs are written, how content is produced and how online coaching is marketed. Generic workouts and nutrition advice can now be generated in seconds. What AI cannot replace is a trusted professional who:
- Stands in front of their clients and prevents them from injury
- Reads body language, mood and history in real time
- Builds confidence in people who are intimidated by traditional gyms and health clubs
- Runs a studio where the culture, community and results are real
Personal Training Profits is built on that gap.
Our focus is helping you build a studio based business that is supported by technology, not replaced by it.
Personal Training Profits exists to give trainers and studio owners a safer, more solid path. The focus is on building well-run, profitable, in-person studios that serve the deconditioned market. This is where coaching and human contact still matter most.
If you have read this far, you already know that your career in personal training depends on more than sets and reps, and how great your body looks. It depends on systems, pricing, good management, and a clear plan for the deconditioned clients that most gyms ignore.
Proven Tools to Build A Profitable Studio
The playbooks and resources on this site take the systems developed across multiple successful studios and package them into practical tools you can use right away. They are designed to:
- Help independent trainers turn a full book of clients into a stable, predictable income
- Help studio owners build systems so the business can run without them every hour of the day
- Show operators how to attract and keep deconditioned clients who have never felt comfortable in a gym
- Provide an alternative to expensive franchise models and social media hype, with a focus on clear numbers and repeatable results
- Support trainers who want an AI aware, but AI proof, long term career in this industry
Personal Training Profits is not about trends or theory. It is about simple, tested business moves that have already worked in real facilities, now organized so you can apply them in your own market and build a studio that works for you.
The Personal Training Profits playbooks turn that experience into practical tools you can apply in your own business, at your own pace.
